Fix: Google Translate is Not Working in Chrome on Windows 10/11
Google Translate is one of the most useful features in Chrome. When we are looking through foreign websites on Chrome, we're used to translate the web pages to a language we preferred with only one click. But in some cases, Chrome's integrated translate module may stop working and thus you will see an error message "This page could not be translated". If your browser also glitches in translating websites, here's how to fix Google Translate not working. Hope to help you.
1. Check the version of Chrome
Step 1: Open the Chrome web browser. Click on the vertical ellipsis on the top right corner and select Settings.
Step 2: In the pop-up window, click on the icon of three horizontal lines on the top left corner and select About Chrome.
Step 3: You will see the version of Chrome and check if your browser is up to date. An old version can be incompatible with Google Translate's mechanism. Then you need to click on Check for Updates and open Google Translate again after updating.
2. Delete cookies and site data
If the problem of Google Translate not working only occurs on a specific website, you just need to clear the data of that website.
Step 1: In the interface of the page you want to translate, click on the padlock icon, which is next to the website address bar. Then select Site settings.
Step 2: Choose Clear data option and then reload the web page to check if Google Translate get back to work.
If the problem occurs on all pages, then you need to delete your browser's cookies following these steps:
Step 1: Copy and paste chrome://settings/clearBrowserData in address bar to open the Clear browsing data window.
Step 2: Select Advanced tab, change the Time range to All time and mark the checkbox in front of Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files. Click on Clear data at last.
Step 3: Refresh your browser and check if Google Translate works properly.
3. Reset settings to default
Step 1: Click on the vertical ellipsis on the top right corner in Chrome and select settings to open Chrome settings.
Step 2: Expand Advanced and select Reset and clean up.
Step 3: Select Restore settings to their original defaults.
4. Try incognito mode
Step 1: Click on the vertical ellipsis on the top right corner and select New Incognito window.
Step 2: Open the website you want to translate in incognito mode window and check if the language can be translated. In this mode, all extensions are disabled so that none of them will have conflicts with Google Translate.
Step 3: If your browser has no trouble translating web pages in incognito mode, then the extension is the root case of the issue. You need to open Chrome in normal mode, click the extension icon to the right of address bar and select Manage extensions.
Step 4: Once Chrome Extensions page opens, disable one extension at a time and check if Google Translate functions well after disabling each extension. Remove or disable the extension after you find the one interfering with Google Translate.
5. Try Chrome extension
Step 1: Go to Google Translate extension page in chrome web store.
Step 2: Click on Add to Chrome.
Step 3: Click on Add extension in the next window.
Step 4: Open the foreign web page again, click on the Extension icon next to the address bar and select Google Translate.
Step 5: Click on TRANSLATE THIS PAGE to to translate the whole page.
6. Try manually translate
