How to Prevent Chrome from Opening Old Tabs at Startup
When you open Chrome, you expect to be presented with a new homepage or a new tab, not a bunch of old tabs from the last session open up. Old tabs loading automatically when launching Chrome is an annoyance for many people. Fortunately, there are some ways to solve this problem.

1. Change the startup configuration
Step 1: Open Chrome, click the three dots in the top-right corner, and select Settings in the drop-down menu.
Step 2: On the left side, scroll down to the On Startup.
Step 3: Turn on Open the New Tab page option.
2. Prevent Chrome from running in the background
Step 1: Repeat step 1 above.
Step 2: On the left side, scroll down to the Advanced.
Step 3: Under the system section, toggle the Continue running background apps when google chrome is closed button off.
Step 4: Minimize Chrome by clicking the - in the top-right corner.
Step 5: Right-click the Start menu and select Task Manager.
Step 6: Choose Details tab, and click chrome. exe and select End task. (Repeat this process for all chrome.exe in the list to completely close the browser.)
3. Reset Chrome flag configurations
Step 1: Open Chrome, close all tabs and open a new tab.
Step 2: Type chrome://Flags in the URL bar and press Enter.
Step 3: Click Reset all option.
Step 4: Select the Relaunch option.
4. Reset Chrome settings
Step 1: On the Chrome settings screen, scroll down to click Advanced.
Step 2: Click Reset and clean up.
Step 3: Click Restore settings to their original defaults.
Step 4: On the pop-up warning box, select Reset settings.
