3 tips to disable or enable startup sound on windows 10 11

The startup sound is the sound that the device makes when it is turned on. Each version of the Windows operating system has a different startup sound. When Windows 10 & 11 starts up, it plays its signature tune and we know that our PC is now ready to use. But if you turn on your PC during lunch break or at night, the startup sound will easily disturb others. In this post, I'll show you how to disable or enable startup sound on Windows 10 & 11.

Through the sound settings

Step 1: Press Windows + I on your keyboard at the same time to open Windows Settings, then click "System" Options.

Step 2: In the left window select the "Sound" option, in the right window, slide the mouse wheel to the bottom and select the "Sound Control Panel" option under Related Settings.

Step 3: Move to the "Sounds" tab, uncheck "Play Windows Startup sound", then click "Apply" and "OK". It will disable startup sound on Windows 10 & 11. Instead, checking the "Play Windows Startup sound" will enable the startup sound.

Through Local Group Policy Editor

Step 1: Press Windows + I at the same time, type gdedit.msc, and click OK to open the Group Policy Editor.

Step 2: Locate the following directory in the Group Policy Editor.

 Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Logon

Step 3: In the right window find and double click on the "Turn off Windows Startup sound" option.

Step 4: Select the "Enabled" option to turn off Windows Startup sound. On the contrary, select the "Disable" option to turn on Windows Startup sound. And then click "Apply" and "OK" to finish the setting.

Through Registry Editor

Step 1: Press Windows + I simultaneously to open the Run dialog box, type regedit and click OK to open the Registry Editor. Click the "Yes" button if prompted for User Account Control.

Step 2: In the registry editor, locate the following directory. Right-click on the right pane of the system key and select the New > DWORD (32-bit) Value option.

Step 3: Rename the value to "DisableStartupSound" and double-click to open it.

Step 4: Change the value data to 1, it will disable the windows startup sound. If you want to enable startup sound, just change the value data to 0. Click OK to save the change.
