how to create new partition from c drive in windows 10 without formatting

If there is only a C drive on your PC, it is necessary to create several new partitions from C drive. There are some advantages by doing it, such as:
(1) Reasonable data classification. Different types of data can be sorted out and stored on different partitions;
(2) Less disk fragmentation;
(3) No data loss. There is no need to format the C drive, thus system and software reinstalling is unnecessary.

Now, we will walk you through how to create new partition from C drive in Windows 10 without formatting .

1. Shrink C drive size

  • Step 1: Right-click My PC -> Manage -> Disk Management, and then right-click C drive, and select Shrink Volume.

Steps: Right-click the unallocated space -> New Simple Volume, and then the New Simple Volume Wizard window pops up, select Next. Enter the specified size and assign the drive letter for new volume, and select next to format this volume. Now, a new partition has been created!

You can set the volume sizes for each partition as you like. For example, you can allocate 100GB for D drive, 150GB for F drive, and the rest for H drive as the picture shown below.
